New Zealand is a relative newcomer to the ream of winemaking. While there had been attempts earlier to establish vineyards, production of wine didn't truly catch on in the country until the mid 1970's.
What quickly became apparent though, was that New Zealand was perhaps the perfect terroir with which to produce truly magnificent Sauvignon Blancs. It is now world-renowned for these varietals, though it also is known for its Pinot Noirs. |
