Mitolo Shiraz Jester 2010

Mitolo Shiraz Jester 750ml 2010
Sku: 32381

Mitolo Wines is a family owned business founded in 1999 by Frank and Simone Mitolo. With his Italian heritage and three generations of his family working as agriculturists, Frank set out to create wines of individuality, integrity and quality. Fruit is sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards located in McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley. The Willunga district vineyards, planted on heavy grey loam soil over sandstone, intermixed with black Biscay clay, are located on the southern tip of the McLaren Vale and the Greencock vineyard located in northern part of the Barossa Valley is planted on free draining loam over limestone. The focus is on Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Other varieties include Sangiovese and Vermentino. Winemaker Ben Glaetzer was born in Adelaide and began his career working as a cellar hand at Barossa Valley Estate and then as winemaker at Tyrrell’s. In 2001 Ben became a partner and since then Mitolo has gone from strength to strength.

Tasting notes
Concentrated and ripe, the wine aged for 18 months using the barrels in which G.A.M. was previously aged. Pure aromas and flavors, with attractive notes of cassis, pepper and licorice lead to silky tannins and superb length on the finish.

Rating
 Wine Spectator 90 points (Jul 31 2012)
This is smooth, velvety and appealing for its juicy blackberry and cherry flavors, zinging through the lively, wet earth-tinged finish. Best from 2013 through 2018. 5,000 cases imported. –HS
Wine Advocate 88 points (Oct 2010)
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Jester 'Tarlton' Shiraz reveals an abundance of black cherry, blackberry, cinnamon and licorice notes with hints of vanilla and mocha. Crisp, full bodied and rich in the mouth, it has a medium level of rounded tannins and a long finish. Approachable now, it should drink well to 2015+.

Technical notes
Fruit harvested from several blocks within the Lopresti Vineyard was fermented on its skins at cool temperatures to preserve the bright, pure berry fruit.

Other text
Richard Tarlton was favourite among jesters to Queen Elizabeth I. Tarlton was the first to achieve national celebrity as a comedian and enjoyed a successful career in theatre as a leading member of the Queen's Players. As a writer, he was the author of popular ballads and plays. With Tarlton Shiraz, 'Jester' celebrates the era where boredom was alleviated through humour and the banal through intellect.
