The grapes of old vines Nußberg come from the vineyard of Ulm, a very steep south-facing slope, which is located on the easternmost part of the Nussberg, next to the Danube. The soil consists of extremely calcareous limestone with limestone in the subsurface with relatively low clay content.Especially this part of the Nussberg can clearly be described as the remnant of a coral reef from the Tertiary, as even today there are still masses of fossilized shells and snails in the chalky stones.
