While Germany is perhaps better known in its pursuits of beer when it comes to alcohol, its also has its share of wine to offer as well. Its main vineyards are spread along the banks of the Rhine river, in hilly, cooler climates owing to them being some of the most notherly vineyards in the world.

These qualities lend themselves best to making white wines, which Germany does with gusto. Two-thirds of its total wine production is composed of white wine varietals, with Riesling being by far its most popular grape.
